OBITUARY: 
Charles Wayne Tarter, 82, 1847 SE 13th St, Salem, died Sept. 20. He was born in Airlie Dec 13, 1901, and reared on the family farm in Airlie. He was a lifetime resident of Oregon and lived in the Airlie area until moving to Salem in 1965. He had worked as a logger and farmed in Airlie. He was a member of the Salem Eagles Lodge and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Survivors include three sons, Henry of Salem, Ray of Airlie, Robert of Lebanon; three daughters, Arlene Baxter of Falls City, Charlene Lytle of Dallas, Mary Lou Johnson of Airlie; two brothers, Stephen Tarter of Salem, Guy Tarter of Punta Gorda, Fla; two sisters, Elta Sams of Albany, LaVerne Riker of Albany; 26 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Services were held Sept 24 at Farnstrom Mortuary, Independence, with vault interment at the English Cemetery, Monmouth. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rescue Unit of the Monmouth Fire Department.

Charles Wayne Tarter, 82, 1847 SE 13th St, Salem, died Thursday, Sept. 20, 1984, at his home. Born in Airlie Dec 13, 1901, he was born and reared on the family farm there. He was a lifetime resident of Oregon and lived in the Airlie area until moving to Salem in 1965. He had worked as a logger and farmed in Airlie. He was a member of the Salem Eagles Lodge and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Surviving relatives include: three sons, Henry Tarter, Salem, Ray Tarter, Airlie, and Robert Tarter, Lebanon; three daughters, Arlene Baxter, Falls City, Charlene Lytle, Dallas, and Mary Lou Johnson, Airlie; two brothers, Stephen Tarter, Salem, and Guy Tarter, Punta Gorda, Fla; two sisters, Elta Sams and La Verne Riker, both of Albany; 26 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday at the Farnstrom Mortuary, Independence. Vault interment followed at the English Cemetery, Monmouth. Contributions in his memory may be made to the rescue unit in care of the Monmouth Fire Department.
